Math Lab Callouts
Many times, students who come to tutoring are concerned about how they will be perceived by their fellow classmates or even by the tutors themselves. Rest assured, the tutors were once students themselves, and had many of the same questions you as a current student have right now! Some of the benefits of coming to tutoring include: More confidence during exams and quizzes, deeper understanding of the material itself, and making connections with tutors/other students in the Math Lab. A lot of the time, all it takes is one small question, you might have, to be answered for all the information in a topic to start to make sense! The Math Lab is here to answer your questions and assist you in your studies.
Students are more than welcome to arrive early to their appointments but it is not required. Students should always bring a calculator, their own computer (if working on an assignment), their textbook or any other relevant class materials provided by the instructor to the appointment, as well as additional items they believe would be needed for a successful tutoring session. A lot of the time, there are multiple tutors in the lab at once, so if you have a quick question for another tutor, they will be ready to answer it for you.
The tutors will always give a 100% effort in helping answer your questions. Sometimes, the tutor may not have seen your material in a while. They may need a little brushing up on the material but not anything that would prevent them from answering your questions. 99% of the time the tutor will be able to help with your questions.
The Math Lab offers On-Line Zoom sessions in addition to on-ground tutoring. Face-face meetings with Math tutors are held in Fayetteville (Library), McMinnville (Library Lab), Moore County (Crouch Hall, rooms 1035-1046), and Smyrna (HSC 359). On-line tutoring works exactly the same way as on-ground tutoring. Your tutor will connect with you, via email, and send you a ZOOM link connecting you with them the day and time of your appointment. If needed, the tutor will share their screen to demonstrate worked out problems and ideas so you, the student, can see the work in action. Please bring all necessary material, that will be needed, with you to your scheduled ZOOM session.
