Research Starters is a feature in EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) that provides authoritative summary articles for tens of thousands of popular topics. When a user conducts a search in EDS, a Research Starter may appear at the top of the Result List. Designed to assist users with their research, this feature was developed based on extensive studies with undergraduate and graduate students.
Research Starters content is curated from a variety of high quality sources, including Salem Press and H. W. Wilson reference books. All content is continuously reviewed for currency, accuracy and relevancy, and our collection continues to grow rapidly across diverse subject areas ranging from science and medicine to literature and history. The goal of EBSCO Information Services (EIS) is always to offer the highest quality content and most comprehensive coverage, and over the years EIS has worked to assemble a team of subject experts to develop essays, reports, encyclopedic entries, and other content to supplement licensed content and meet specific needs in particular areas of study. The information produced by EIS is used by doctors, nurses, teachers, business people, historians, researchers, and students at all levels of education, from grade school to graduate school.
EBSCO Discovery Service
EBSCO Discovery Service brings together the most comprehensive collection of content—including superior breadth of coverage from an unprecedented number of publisher partnerships, superior indexing from top subject indexes, high-end full text, and the entire library collection—all within a full-featured, customizable discovery layer experience. The metadata offered by EBSCO Discovery Service is culled from nearly all major journal publishers and information providers. Constantly expanding, EDS provides metadata for magazines and journals, newspaper articles, conference proceedings, books, CDs, and DVDs, and additional information sources from various source types. Libraries can build upon the collection by including metadata from their own unique collections, including their catalog (OPAC), Institutional Repositories, databases, archival collections, and more.
